Christmas 2009

We had a delightful white Christmas. I haven’t had a white Christmas in several years and found it funny that we were in Texas, having a white Christmas. We started out our day by visiting Becca and singing Christmas carols to her. Becca is still in the isolation pod and will continue to be there until she comes home. We’re praising God that the MRSA is just colonized in her nose and that she is infection free.

Late morning and early afternoon, we enjoyed homemade cinnamon rolls and opening presents by the Christmas tree. We’ve been saving gifts sent to us or Becca to open on Christmas day. Our Christmas tree was lent to us by Aunt Rita (a lady in our church), many of our lights were given to us by David and Caroline, and most of the decorations were lent to us by Sandi (another lady in our church). It was so nice to have a Christmas tree in our little apartment.

In the afternoon, we went to see Becca and I was able to hold her. She was quite alert and seemed to enjoy being held, even though it was through a gown and gloves. We came home, read the Christmas story, had homemade bean dip with chips, and enjoyed watching Charlie Brown’s Christmas.

In the evening we had our Christmas dinner, which consisted of ham, fresh green beans, and baked potatoes. Josh made a delicious pumpkin pie for dessert. After dinner we made our evening visit to Becca and then enjoyed watching a movie. We both agree that we had a lovely Christmas. We enjoyed being able to spend the day together without the pressures of work or school. We enjoyed our visits with Becca and are praising God for our darling gift from Him.

Today is Becca’s 1-month birthday. Her weight, as of this morning, is 3 lbs and 4.9 ounces. It’s hard to believe she’s a month old already. We’re looking forward to when she can celebrate her month birthdays at home with us.

  1. Happy 1-month birthday, Becca! You are a precious gift from God, and we are so thrilled that you are doing so well and growing every day!! Josh and Amy, it looks like you had a very special Christmas day and made some wonderful memories — and the fact that it was a WHITE Christmas — that’s just icing on the cake! Love all the pictures!

  2. Amy, Thanks so much for sharing how your Christmas was. It’s funny how we were all away from home, but still kept up some of the Sutter traditions. We also had our cinammon rolls and eggs. We didn’t take a great picture by our tree though like you did. We miss you very much. I LOVED all of the pictures included in that post. You did receive a wonderful (early)Christmas present with Becca. 😉

  3. Hi Becca!! You are looking so beautiful and alert! On Tuesday, a friend of mine is coming to visit Emily and me. All three of her little girls were preemies. Kayla was born at 2 lbs. 2 oz, Karen was
1 lb 14 oz, and Noel was only 12 ounces was she was born (they called her their “Little Soda Can”. The three sisters are now ages 12, 11, 9. It is just amazing how they have grown up and become such sweet girls. We can tell by the look in your eye that you are anxious to get out and have some fun! Soon you will!!! Love you!!

  4. Even though we missed having you here with us this Christmas, we have enjoyed our phone visits with you, our Christmas morning Skype call, AND seeing how much you enjoyed your special Christmas at home together, including your special visits with Becca. We praise the Lord for your special love for each other and the parents that our granddaughter has been blessed to belong to. The newest pictures are great – it is fun to see her alert and becoming more aware of her surroundings – and filling out! What a fun Christmas present! If the next month passes as quickly as Becca’s first month has, she’ll be home with you before you know it. We love you!

  5. I rejoice in your love for each other! Your love is so obvious and you both radiate the Lord Jesus! Thank you for that wonderful update! Rebecca does look alert and oh so comfortable with her parents! I really like those silhoutte pictures that you took in the snow! PTL for this fine report! Love, Grandma B

  6. Thank you for the updates..I do not always leave a message but I check on you three all the time. Your blog site is such a loving place to visit: your love for each other, your precious angel and the Lord lifts my spirits more with each “stop” to see how well Rebecca is progressing. And I am so happy to know she is doing well. She is surely a miracle…and we all send our love to her and her amazing parents. Know that we continue to keep you all close in thought and prayer. May God continue to touch her with His loving, healing grace. I look forward to my next visit and to seeing more beautiful pictures of God’s love which is so plain to see in her growth and your delight in her and each other. Sending love and hugs to you all, Smidge

  7. Told friends I shared Christmas with in San Antonio about you guys. We had a moment of silence and best wishes for all of you. Wonderful to read and see how Becca has grown, and happy to hear that the lung issues are resolved and the nasal MRSA is contained.

She is a beautiful, precious little girl.
