On Friday I submitted a thoroughly revised dissertation proposal to my committee, in hopes of defending my proposal by semester’s end and officially starting on my dissertation in May. I haven’t posted for a while, so I’ll give a couple updates here.
First, some short clips of Becca over the last couple weeks:
Second, an update on books Amy and I have read together–mostly in little bits before bed–since our last report (almost a year ago):
- C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength)
- Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë)
- The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien)
- Till We Have Faces (C.S. Lewis)
- The Princess Bride (William Goldman) [yeah, it was a book before it was a movie!]
- Worldliness (C.J. Mahaney)
We’re now working on Shepherding a Child’s Heart (Tripp) and Surprised by Joy (Lewis).
Third, we’ve started memorizing hymns (a New Year’s resolution)–all the stanzas! So far, we’ve memorized “Lord Enthroned in Heavenly Splendor,” “Be Still My Soul,” “Be Thou My Vision,” and “God Moves in a Mysterious Way.” Now we’re working on “Praise My Soul the King of Heaven.”
Well, it’s haircut time for me now. Check back later in the week for the photos.
Of those books, what would be your favorite one of them all? I always love a good book recommendation. Thanks for the post Josh. Praying for your proposal defense. Love you and your family!
Josh!! great job on the video!! it made me laugh!! Becca is so cute.. she is soooo lucky to have an aunt as cool as me!!! hahah!! lol!! miss and love y’alls!!! wish i could come down with mom to visit!!!! <3
Loved the clips of Becca – she has so much personality! We rejoice with you, Josh, that you finished your proposal. Now praying with you that they will accept it and let you defend it before the end of the semester. Big week for y’all – Praying for all three of you as you rearrange some responsibilities – Amy, a classroom teacher again instead of Becca’s private tutor, and Josh as Mr. Mom during the day, in addition to your regular duties. Now you’ll find out how much work one little girl can really be!! Have fun, Becca! (Hope y’all still have time for a little family reading – such a wonderful activity!)
Love y’all!
“Micaiah and Miriam really likes your all your videos, what you did, because we like your baby.” That’s what Miriam told me to write. 🙂
Micaiah really likes the sounds Becca make, as he thinks she sounds like a cat. (Trust me, he intends that as a compliment.) The two of them have sat here at the computer and played the video through about 5 times.
On a completely different note, you have chosen two of my all-time favorite hymns to memorize–God Moves in a Mysterious Way, and Praise, My Soul. Great texts! Sounds like you guys are doing well. Congratulations, Josh, on your most recent landmark in your education. Bon courage, Amy, on your renewed (and, gratefully, temporary) venture!
Love the video – she is such a sweetheart – don’t you just love baby sounds!!
