Goodnight, Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite!!!

Last Thursday we found out that Becca’s Pack-‘n-Play had bed bugs! I’d been noticing marks on her arms and face but wasn’t sure if they were bug bites or a rash. Thursday morning, I caught a bed bug scurrying across her bed. The Terminex man came that same day to confirm that the Pack-‘n-Play really had bed bugs, and after throwing out the Pack-‘n-Play we spent Thursday through Tuesday getting ready for our apartment to be sprayed.

We had to wash and dry clothes, blankets, curtains, toys, etc. (I’m so thankful we have a washer and dryer), move everything 2 ft away from the walls, remove everything from the closet floor, and put things in common areas, so the Terminex man could spray the closet and apartment floors. Needless to say, this has been quite a week. The spraying took place Tuesday late morning, and by Tuesday night, we had made good progress in putting things back together. I’m hoping to be finished with the rest of the stuff today.

Since we got rid of the Pack-‘n-Play, Becca has had to sleep on the floor in our room. It worked well during nights, but Becca refused to take naps during the day. This was complicated by the fact that last Thursday, Becca figured out how to creep across the room. So if I tried to lay her down for a nap. I’d soon hear her at the bedroom door, wanting to get out! We’ve had lots of extra crying this week, and are looking forward to when things are back to “normal.”

Friday evening, we took a break from the prep work and went to a pumpkin patch and corn maze.ย  It’s the same place we went to when we first moved down here. Becca was a little grumpy, since she had been nap-less; she seemed to enjoy the maze more than she did posing for pumpkin pictures. It was great to get outside andย  to have fun together as a family. I’m so blessed to have my dear little family – they truly are a joy.

  1. Great post! Loved all the new pictures. The pumpkin patch and corn maze place looked like so much fun. The boys were impressed that Becca got to ride a tractor! Sorry about the bed bugs. Glad it’s taken care of now. Hope Becca can adjust to a new sleeping arrangment (or you can get a new crib).

  2. Oh Amy! Those pictures of Becca crying look so pitiful. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The poor girl. I definitely see how you thought the bites could be a rash. Glad you saw the little guy scurrying around! Just think…now you don’t have to spring clean in the spring. ha ha. Hope you find a new pac-n-play soon!

  3. Amy,

That poor little dear. I felt so bad for her. ๐Ÿ™ It seems that bed bugs are everywhere these days. No fun at all. I’m glad you saw it when you did. Poor baby.
I love the pumpkin pics. She is truly a beautiful little girl. She seems so happy(except when bugs bite, but who likes to be bitten? ;))
Thanks for sharing all of her cute pictures. I really enjoy the videos and pics.
    hope yall are well!

  4. Good job Amy on the Bed Bug attack! What a lot of work!! We’re praying that you’ve seen the last of them!! Becca is beautiful. I’d love to hear what she is thinking!!!!

  5. Oh my, witches, goblins and bed bugs, oh my! Try to buy something for Becca to sleep in that is made in USA. What a nightmare, but sounds like you had a good plan of attack. I feel so bad! Love, GG

  6. I imagine that was a week you all would love to forget – and never have to repeat! Good job on getting rid of the little critters that seem to be showing up just about everywhere. I am even a bit afraid to go to the beach (Great Grandpa wants to go sometime before Christmas).
We trust you can get a little bed for Becca real soon. She needs to have her “own room” again. Lots of love to you all.

  7. Hi Josh & Amy,
I’m a stranger to you most likely I was Becky Hurst from Oregon (from the church your Grandparents helped out nearly 20 years ago!) now Becky Franklin and cousin to Lars Arndt. Your Mom (J) just sent me a link to your blog, so I’ve been entranced here on the couch to the story of your little darling, adorable Becca. By the way, her name is perfect! ;-D

I found it interesting you all married the same year – a month later than my husband and I and were due a month and a half after us…but for the events that brought her precious life into this world a bit earlier. Our little Samuel (named for my Grandpa Sam) is 9.5 months. He of course developmentally and size wise has surpassed little Becca, but looking at the photos of her growth reminds me so of his growth.

She has the most beautiful smile (like her Mama & Daddy!) and the most delightful blue eyes. What a gem and what a delight to be parents. We share in your delight and enthusiasm… we thank the LORD for His blessing in our life each day…what did we ever do without our little bundles of overflowing JOY?

Blessings to you and your family!!!
