Guess who weighs 4 lb!

Hint: it’s one of the pretty girls in the photo. . . . Okay, here’s another photo to help you figure it out:

This evening we called the night nurse to find out her daily weight, and Becca’s reached 1800 grams! Tonight they may see how she does outside the incubator in a crib — with just clothes (!) and blankets. She may not be ready yet to hold her body heat without help, but it’s a positive step forward for her nurse to try the crib. Probably next week they’ll try her on a bottle, too. At her gestational age, she may not have the coordination to suck, breathe, and swallow all at the same time, but again, it’s great that they’re ready to try. (I have trouble myself with breathing and swallowing at the same time.)

In the photo above, you can see Becca getting a bath last night. It was the second bath Amy and I have given her (with supervision, of course).

Tonight we called the nurse instead of going in to the hospital since it was date night. After dinner out, we played 3 rounds of Memory (another gift from Aunt Cindy). Guess who won two out of three rounds?

We wrapped up the evening by reviewing last year’s goals and setting new ones for 2010. Now it’s bed time.

  1. Awesome! We’re so excited about the new milestone. It will be great to hear how she sleeps in a crib and how she does with a bottle! She looks so cute in the pictures. Funny you played Memory last evening – I did too, but it wasn’t date night (unless you consider playing with three little boys a good date!). Happy New Year!

  2. Such an answer to prayer! We will continue to pray for you both as school starts up Monday, and for little Rebecca!

  3. 4 LBS! What a wonderful answer to prayer!. god is so good.
Becca is doing so well. Can’t wait to hear how she responds to a crib, to clothes, and eventually to bottle feeding.
    Becca is a beautiful baby.
Thanks for posting all the new milestones. All 3 of you are in our prayers.

  4. Praise God for Becca reaching 4 pounds and for the anticipation to her reactions of being bottle fed. Our prayers continue to be with you all. We pray that Amy gains strength day by day with the routine of teaching again. We love you ALL.

  5. She is beautiful – she plural. Milestones are coming fast and furious. We praise the Lord for Becca’s progress in the past couple of weeks. She’ll be home with you before you know it. I am looking forward to holding your precious bundle on our next visit.

Praying for your first day back at school! Love y’all!

  6. We are SO EXCITED about the 4 lbs. milestone…SO EXCITED that we wish we could use more than just “ALL CAPS” to express it 🙂 We’re continuing to pray for you all–and for your return to school tomorrow. (We hope it’s a very short return 🙂 ) Love you!

  8. I have been praying for you all and I am rejoicing with you at each milestone. Prayers continue for you all as the Lord glorifies Himself through your lovely little daughter. What a unique ministry you must have to the NICU nurses and doctors who witness your trust in a loving, sovereign God!

  12. Hi Josh and Ruth Amy,
Was directed to this page by the EMU newsletter. Know some of what you’re going through. In 2008 Lisa had an emergency C-section because Blake was coming early (27 weeks, 5 days) but he was breached. He weighed 2 lbs. 10 oz. Blake spent about 3 months in the NICU but came through just fine. So we know some of what you’re feeling and experiencing.

Psalm 23 was a great blessing to me during our struggles–“Even though I walk through the valley of dark times, I will fear no harm, because You are with me.”

Will pray for all of you right now.
